Merle J. "Butch" Kucan

Merle J. "Butch" Kucan, 77, of Bell Acres, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, October 19, 2022, at his residence.

Born July 8, 1945, in Sewickley, he was the son of the late Steve and Alice Gallagher Kucan. Butch spent many years devoting his life to helping children with disabilities including teaching them to swim. In his later years he became studying genealogy and became very interested in the religions of his ancestors. He learned his great-grandparents were of the Jewish decent. He became involved in many religions and was associated with several different churches. Butch was also very fascinated by plants and ponds.

Surviving in his sister, Linda Kucan; brother-in-law, Tom Friend; nephew, Tom Friend; two great-nephews, Tommy Friend, and Timmy Friend; his two beloved dogs, Abby, and Bella; and his favorite cat, Sophie.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Becky Friend.

As per Butch's request, all services were private.
